Zephaniah prophesied during a time when the people of Judah had turned their backs on God. While most of Zephaniah’s prophecy talks of judgment to come for Judah’s faithlessness, today’s text shows that doom and gloom will not get the last word. Zephaniah declares that the day of the Lord is coming—a day when God will be reunited with God’s people—and restoration will bring about much rejoicing, by both the people and God!
