Since the beginning, humans have had a capacity for wrongdoing. This story starts with humanity’s wickedness and Noah’s sole blamelessness. From here, the story is likely familiar. Noah is asked to build an ark and collect animals. Then a great flood comes and for forty days and nights, Noah and his family are unsure if they will see creation restored. But then creation begins again. The waters separate from the earth. Animals were brought forth. Humans received a blessing and were told to be fruitful & multiply. In this passage, we get the finalized Noahic blessing—a covenant between God and not only humans, but every living creature.
